For this 15-minute challenge, I focused on balancing the strict assignment requirements with the tight time limit. To mark the start and end of the challenge, my first and eighth photos are timestamps of my phone screen via my homescreen and photo app. On a walk near my house with my mom, I captured a sunset, which captured a great contrast between the vibrant colors and the dark traffic lights. The third photo is a quick shot of my sister's shoe as we left to run an errand. For the "futuristic" prompt, I shot my car's door light reflecting the vehicle's logo as I closed the car's door. Finally, I hit a Papa Johns parking lot to take a 0.5x wide-angle storefront shot, a blurry picture of their new Pan pizza sign, a framing of a single isolated car, and a confusing visual to wrap up the list.
Considering that, this challenge was difficult when it came to the quality of the photos. Due to the time frame, it was very tempting to rush through it, in an effort to be done quicker. However, it's situations like this were they can led to even more issues when trying to discuss the why's and how's of the photos when no thinking took place. Therefore, it challenged me to think critically about the assignment and seek out photos and locations that would be stronger. As a result, the photos I took felt more intentional and meaningful towards actually executing the project well.
My strongest photo, I believe is my 5th photo, of the Papa John's ad because of the blurry effect captured. Any camera application always wants to find something to focus on when taking a photo, and trying to override that can be very difficult. Attempting to not focus on any objects in front of the camera proved to be harder then it looks, but somehow, I was able to take this photo before the phone had a chance to find something to focus on. The final product not only has the blurry effect, but the objects in front of it are all very unreadable when out of focus. In conclusion, I am very proud of this photos.
When I think about my most inventive photo, I would say that my 4th photo is that. Futuristic photos can often look very fake and edited, with a reliance on bright colors and imagery of possible technological advancements to really emphasize the futuristic aspects. Furthermore, the simplicity of my photo contradicts these characteristics and lean into more of a minimalism approach. Not only is it uncommon to see a car have a light under it's doors, but the text is also formatted to look different. In the end, I am really happy with how all of this turned out.
