Music Parody

Original Lyrics--Heat wave, slow lane
Small town
Only diesels dance
These streets weren't meant to house
Jet fuel engine drеams
White arrows will blast
The black night

Parody

Big city
Only Uber's dance
These blocks were meant to house
Lifetime dreams
Brake lights always blast
The neon lights night

The lyrics above were taken from the song, "Boy" by The Killers, which talks about the imagery of a small, country town road and transformed into a parody about cities. Both versions articulate similar meanings and imagery by difference between how small towns and cities are viewed. Smaller towns are normally seen as areas filled with dead ends leading to nothingness, while cities are the opposite.  In the media,, there are always references to wanting to leave the small town for the big city that has more to offer, which these two lyrics discuss. Therefore, these differences and imagery are employed in both versions.

Starting in the beginning of both versions, one of the big differences is the methods of transportation used in small towns and cities. In small towns, there are massive diesel cars that dominate the environment, yet in cities, where people almost never drive, Uber's roam instead. As a result, the environment as cities are filled with flashing neon signs and bright red brake lights due to the vast density of people. However, in small towns, you can see cars with individual white lights because there are simply less people. These differences are important because they connect to the 4th lines of both of these songs, in that they both house different kinds of dreams for people.

One of the fundamental differences between both of these versions is their discussions of seeking dreams, and what each place would seemingly offer for people. Cities, as mentioned in the remix, are places for chasing dreams, with the big buildings implying that you are dreaming to be up the top. However, small towns, house dreams for those looking to slow down, and build roots, and likely start a family. Those types of dreams are not "jet fuel engine" because they don't require a driven work ethic for a young person to make it big. Cities, on the other hand, may be seen as the lifetime dream for someone trying to leave their childhood small town.

Ultimately, both versions discuss the same theme of wanting more out of life. Small towns offer dreams for those looking to have a quieter life after making it big, after the big city enabled them to do so. Cities are hectic and filled with so many opportunities, which can be very exciting for someone who has never left their small town. In many ways, the cities are the jet fuel dream setter for those looking for more, and small towns are there for when it becomes too much. In conclusion, these lyrics are a prime example of how important dreaming is, and if you feel stuck in your small town, the city is there waiting for you.
