Modifying an Original Song Without outside songs

As Katherine stepped out of the sorority's front door, she realized that a massive thunderstorm had begun, meaning she would have to walk back to her dorm in the pouring rain. Her hands were already soaked from crying in front of the whole party, since her now "ex" best friend had betrayed her by kissing a boy she had liked. Once she was a couple of blocks away from the house, she put her wired earbuds in, and before she could turn on an uplifting song, she began to cry even more. The blackened sky made it feel like one of those gray clouds was over her head, and would never leave her alone. All she could think about was why she had even tried to talk to any boy, when she knew her more attractive, naive friend would get them anyway, before she could even try.

After walking for a while, Katherine stopped under a nearby street light to finally open her phone and select a song to listen to for the rest of her walk back. It was there that she clicked on a random playlist of Taylor Swift classics, and out of her own sadness, clicked shuffle and let the music play. As the drum beats began, they synced with her heartbeat and the continuous tears of sadness, now confusion. Once the vocals started, it hit Katherine that she had not only lost her chance with the first boy she had ever liked, but that her best friend was now her enemy. That realization really made the lyric of "wasted like all my potential" hit differently.

Shortly thereafter, Katherine reached the final destination of her dormitory and got to finally wipe her soaked shoes onto a mat. She walked towards a couch located in the dorm's main study room and almost slipped as she sat down. Her tears had become more controllable and had slowed down enough for her to finally regroup and reflect on the night's events. Katherine opened her phone to her lock screen showing a motivational quote about putting yourself out there. Simultaneously,  the vocals of "you're a flashback in a film reel on the one screen in my town", which almost punched her in the gut, knowing that, in fact, this boy was that.

Once the final beat dropped, Katherine realized that she would eventually have to move on, somehow. Her "ex" best friend was history to her, and was now just another body. The last lyric of "at least I'm trying" uplifted her spirits enough for her to stand up and go up the stairs to her dorm room. Her emotions had calmed themselves for the night after reflecting on the prior events, and reassured that things would sort out, slowly. In the end, Katherine was proud that she had at least tried to put herself out there, even if it didn't work out.
