Professor Feedback and Engagement with Peer's Work
During this class, thus far, I have engaged with my peers' work and professor feedback in many ways. Since the Daily Create discussion boards are public, I've been able to both see my peers' creations and draw inspiration from them for my daily creates. In terms of feedback on my blog, I've primally received professor feedback, which has been helpful when organizing, correcting, and completing my assignment correctly. Furthermore, this feedback and engagement have been very beneficial, doing work for this class, as getting feedback while using my other peers as examples for each assignment has felt very reassuring.
Expectations vs. Reality
Throughout this unit, I experienced unexpected highs and lows when completing assignments. I was surprised by how easy iMovie was to use; it was simple to add media and audio without difficulties. This was especially helpful for the Tell Your Character's Story assignment, making my story come to life without issues. Outside of that, the harder moments centered around my lack of creativity. I am not the best idea generator, and my ideas for a character for the Where Do You Wanna Go " assignment felt insufficient. Additionally, my Gnome story assignment was unexpectedly hard because many images I wanted to use were very blurry once added to Canva, which was annoying to work through.
What I Learned
Prior to this unit, I had taken a video production class where we had discussed many of the same terms as Ebert, which helped to reinforce the importance of those terms through the corresponding reflection assignment. Along with that, I was able to apply these ideas to my Anchorman analysis and watch-throughs. I had not considered how often Ebert's ideologies were applied in film, and getting to watch the Anchorman clip three times allowed me to really understand how they are used. In the end, I learned a lot about the importance of different editing and acting techniques that can really enhance a piece of media.
The Enjoyable Aspects
There were many enjoyable parts throughout this entire unit, including finding visuals and ambient sounds for all of the assignments. I had not realized how particular I would be about finding videos of different sounds, yet I felt like I needed to find ones that represented each story well. Apparently, finding videos of horseback riding in Croia is harder than it looks. In terms of visuals, finding strong visuals felt very important to me to both communicate the character's personality and to have a representation of what each person looked like. For instance, it took me a while to find a photo of Jon Snow just at the wall and not with others behind him.
In conclusion, this unit was definitely difficult, yet very rewarding once the final products were made.
