The Enjoyable Aspects
This unit was enjoyable from the standpoint that I really enjoy photography, so I appreciated the opportunities I had to further explore and apply my knowledge of it. Specifically, with the visuals within photos assignment, which challenged me to take carefully curate photos based on the time frame over trying to capture a moment in time for memories. Outside of the photography, I loved looking for my dream home and having zero restrictions towards pricing and location, which added to the idea that of my dream home being very out of reach for me (as a young person). Lastly, I enjoyed getting to select the assignment block mini projects and getting to put my own spin on them.
The Challenges I Had
I think my main frustrations and difficulties came from the technological aspects, primarily trying to work with and figure out how to use WordPress. It was certainly challenging and time consuming, but it was important to me to learn how to use it instead of assuming things worked in ways that they didn't. This was certainly frustrating as well since I had not used WordPress since I was a freshman, and since it had never come up again, my skills and knowledge of the platform were dismantled and I did not know what I was doing for a while. However, as mentioned beforehand, this class forced me to take the time to learn again over making assumptions about the tech itself. In general, this was more of a unit of trial and error, which will hopefully be beneficial later on.
Key Takeaways
When reflecting on the takeaways from this unit, I learned not to rush the timing of both assignments and creations. WordPress forced me to take posts and content one day at a time, due to the nuances and unpredictability of its interface. I found quickly that I needed to take my time on the website's layout and navigation, by both pacing myself slowly and downloading applications such as Elementor that eased the process. Therefore, I realized that being considerate of the requirements at hand and trying to make things simpler allowed for the assignments and work itself to be more enjoyable.
Conclusion
This unit certainly presented a vast amount of difficulties for me, both on the technical and application aspects. I do think it was important for me to build confidence towards the website creation processes through the trails and errors I experienced. While I am still learning, it opened my eyes to how to make a website look attractive but still have the correct info on it. Along with that, my patience was certainly tested throughout this unit when trying to organize the website and content to appear correctly, but it did pay off. In conclusion, this unit presented many difficulties, yet I' m happy it turned out okay.
